Samsung preparing to open retail stores in North America

Apple’s got their own stores. Sony does, too. But somehow Samsung — who produces everything from construction equipment to refrigerators to smartphones — doesn't have a standalone retail presence. According to some sources, however, that’s about to change.
Samsung is currently gearing up for the opening of several stores in Canada this year. The company is reportedly looking
to bolster their retail presence and will also be partnering with major electronics retailers to launch store-within-a-store set-ups as well.
Samsung Canada president James Politeski told an interviewer that the company wants “consumers to experience the Samsung brand in a way that they have not experienced it before” and to see the full breadth of what Samsung has to offers. Presumably that will include things like Galaxy smartphones and tablets, televisions and home theater gear, cameras, computers, and home appliances. Unfortunately you won’t see any compact excavators, since Samsung Heavy Industries was acquired by Volvo a few years back.
So is the U.S. next on Samsung’s list? Those of you who live outside New York may not even realize that Samsung has had a brick-and-mortar presence for years: the Samsung Experience at The Shops at Columbus Circle.
Their ambitions this time are much more broad, and they could very well make a push southward after they’re established in Canada. Samsung has given Canadians an early invite before — the Galaxy S2 was available there months before it made its way to any U.S. carriers. It wouldn’t really be a surprise if they were testing the Northern waters first before jumping in to the deep end.
